Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

The current security situation calls for an intensive engagement of all the government structures and security agencies of the Republic of Serbia. The members of the Security Services Control Committee offered full support to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and all the state authorities and security services in their efforts to maintain security in the Republic of Serbia and protect its citizens.

The Committee members were briefed on the current security situation in the Republic of Serbia and the current political and security situation in the neighbourhood. The Committee members were informed about the military security services’ activities concerning the recent events affecting the security situation in the Republic of Serbia, including the events in the southern province. Based on the activities and information presented it was concluded that in the reporting period the military security services had acted in line with the law in the interest of protecting the security of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens.

In the course of the discussion, the Committee members deemed that the reports allow full insight into the work of the Military Security Agency and the Military Intelligence Agency, which was performed with an admirable degree of efficiency in the reporting period. By analysing the agencies’ work in the reporting period, the Committee concluded that the Military Security Agency had successfully realized the key tasks within its purview as regards opposing organized crime and corruption, counterintelligence and security protection of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Army.

The Committee members praised the agencies’ timely detection and assessment of defence system risk indicators and employment of efficient measures of counterintelligence and security protection of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Army. In the reporting period the agencies realized their tasks in accordance with the law and in cooperation with administrative and commanding bodies of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Army, as well as other relevant institutions of the Republic of Serbia and foreign partners.

The Committee members praised improved cooperation and exchange of information with national and foreign security services which has improved the efficiency of data and information checks thus contributing to the reliability of assessment and strengthened trust and cooperation between agencies.

Also, recognizing the important role of defence attache offices as Military Intelligence Agency organizational units, the Committee members gave full support to the opening of new defence attache offices.
