The fourth Annual Conference of Defence Attaches of the Republic of Serbia took place in Belgrade, from April 12 to April 20, 2010. The Conference is an integral part of managing and promoting the work of defence attache offices within our diplomatic missions in the world and it represents the chance for the defence attaches to most efficiently familiarize themselves with issues regarding their work, to obtain guidelines and instructions for future work and to share their experiences.
The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Dragan Sutanovac addressed the defence attaches in the plenary session of the Conference. He emphasized the priorities of foreign and defence policy of the Republic of Serbia and pointed to expectations of the Ministry of Defence, regarding their engagements. The Ministry of Defence, in accordance with the planned goals and tasks, expects from the defence attaches to contribute keeping the state leadership informed on the situation in the region and the world, thus influencing the strengthening of security of the Republic of Serbia. They should do their best to develop bilateral military cooperation, especially on the regional level, to work on the affirmation of the Republic of Serbia as the member of the Partnership for Peace, to promote the country's contribution to international peace, security and military and economic cooperation, through their engagement.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Serbia Lieutenant General Miloje Miletic, state secretaries and other heads from the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Serbia addressed the Conference participants.
Although the Republic of Serbia currently has a relatively small number of defence attache offices (18), their work has until now confirmed their significance in the realization of the defined goals and of affirmation of the Republic of Serbia and the defence system. Internationally speaking, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia have become a reliable and respected partner in both bilateral and multilateral relations.
A formal reception attended by the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff with his associates, the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and of Yugoimport - SDPR, foreign military diplomatic corpse accredited in Belgrade and other guests, was organized on the occasion of the Fourth Conference of Defence Attaches.
