Director of the MIA manages the work of MIA and is subordinated to the Minister of Defence.
The MIA’s director has a deputy who reports to the director. The Agency’s director and deputy director are appointed to and dismissed from the duty by the decree issued by the President of the Republic of Serbia and on the proposal of the Minister of Defence, in case of professional military officers, or by the Government based on the proposal of the Minister of Defence in accordance with the Law regulating the position of civil servants.
MIA’s director and deputy director are appointed for the period of five years.
Director and deputy director cannot be members of a political party, nor perform any other public function.
A person who has completed General Staff Course and has at least nine years of working experience in intelligence and security sector within the defense system may be appointed as the director and deputy director of the Agency.
